Sending Domains

To send email from your own address, such as hello@yourcompany.com, you first add yourcompany.com as a sending domain and prove you own it by publishing DNS records.

  1. Add your domain. Connect returns the DNS records to publish.
  2. Publish the records with your DNS provider.
  3. Verify the domain. Once every required record is found, the domain’s status becomes active and you can send from any address on it.

Each record has a purpose:

PurposeWhat it does
Return pathLets bounces come back to us so we can track them
DKIMSigns your email so inboxes know it really came from you
DMARCTells inboxes what to do with email that fails the checks

Records with required set to false are recommended but don’t block verification.

  • You can have up to 3 domains waiting for verification at once.
  • An unverified domain is removed after 14 days. We email you reminders before then, and you can add it again at any time.

DNS changes can take a while to spread. If verification fails straight after you publish the records, wait a few minutes and try again.

If you sent email with Connect before October 2026, your existing domains are listed with needsUpgrade set to true. They keep sending until 30 November 2026. To keep sending after that, add the domain again, publish the new records and verify it. Your email switches to the new set-up as soon as it is verified.

  • POST /v2/email/domains adds a domain and returns the DNS records to publish. You get a 409 if you already have 3 domains waiting for verification, or the domain is registered by someone else. If you own a domain that is already registered, contact support.
  • POST /v2/email/domains/{id}/verify checks your DNS records and verifies the domain once every required record is found. You can call it as often as you like. It returns each record’s current status.
  • GET /v2/email/domains lists your domains, without their records. GET /v2/email/domains/{id} gets one with its records.
  • DELETE /v2/email/domains/{id} removes a domain so it can no longer send. Emails you have already sent are not affected, and you can add the domain again later.
